Wilderness Stewardship Training
The WSTF’s wilderness stewardship training programs provide onsite training for its members as well as the staff, guests, and students at Chilcotin Holidays.
Guests, staff, and students at Chilcotin Holidays get involved directly in our Wildlife Research Projects by working with foundation members to give us input for our stewardship training programs and help with field work.
Guests
Guests of our partner, the Chilcotin Holidays Ranch, are encouraged to participate in our research projects directly through data collection in the wilderness. This means more people are recording their wildlife sightings and contributing to our work. In Addition, more people are exposed to the practice of stewardship work.
Staff
The foundation’s staff has chosen to advance their careers through employment with the foundation where they’re enabled to educate themselves on resource management and sustainable practices. This can be achieved through the following:
- Research carried out on resource management in the area
- Commenting on consultations and referrals
- Educating volunteers, partners and guests

Students
We offer a perfect opportunity for students in the environmental science field who are interested in resource management. Use your knowledge to conduct research projects in an Internship or work as a volunteer in the Chilcotin Mountains.
Internships
As an intern, you can work on our current projects in the field and help with data collection. You can also provide the knowledge needed to make the different projects evolve and even create new ones. Scientific research is a key to manage the environment and to know which position should be adopted, facing new challenges every time.
Working Holiday Offer
Do you want to get some real “hands-on” experience of conservation and stewardship work in a remote wilderness area? Come on one of WSTF’s practical working holidays and you could be collecting Grizzly Bear hair samples, counting herds of Mountain Goat, surveying the region’s wildflowers and grasses or protecting endangered trees, all the while living in the midst of the unspoilt South Chilcotin mountains.
Part of your stay will be at the ranch (in a lodge or chalet) and the rest will be spent in the bush at one of Chilcotin Holidays’ base camps (in comfortable A-frame tents), miles from anything but crystal clear creeks, colorful meadows, fragrant pine forests and soaring mountains.
